What is heartier and cosier than a delicious Lasagne this winter?

We want to make it easy for you so here is our take on it.

Beef Lasagne

Ingredients :

1 packet of uncooked lasagne sheets

2 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese

Fresh parsley to garnish

Meat sauce

500g lean ground beef

1 onion, finely chopped

Pinch of organum

Mixed herbs

Salt & Pepper

Tin of tomatoes

2 Tablespoons tomato paste

1 Tablespoon sugar

1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

Bechamel sauce

4 Tablespoons butter

¼ Cup flour

3 Cups milk

Salt

Freshly ground pepper

METHOD

STEP ONE

In a large frying pan or pot, sauté the onion, garlic and mince in a dash of oil olive until onions soft and mince browned.

STEP TWO

Add the tin of tomatoes, tomato paste, mixed herbs, organum, salt and pepper, sugar and Worcestershire sauce and simmer for another 10 minutes.

STEP THREE

Béchamel Sauce

Melt the butter in a heavy-bottomed saucepan, stir in the flour. Stir constantly and cook for about 2 minutes., add the milk, continuing to stir as the sauce thickens. When the sauce starts to boil, add salt and pepper to taste. Lower the heat, and cook, stirring until the sauce thickens.

STEP FOUR

Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius. To assemble the lasagne, spread a layer of meat sauce on the bottom of the oven proof dish. Cover the meat with a layer of lasagne sheets. Add a layer of béchamel sauce. Top with another layer of meat sauce, followed by lasagne sheets and béchamel sauce. Sprinkle grated cheese on top and bake in the oven for 45 minutes. If you have precooked the pasta, bake in the oven for 25 minutes.  Let it rest for 10 minutes once cooked and enjoy with Pinotage!
